This year we are starting a whole-farm community supported agriculture (CSA) program. Our customers have an almost unlimited range of options to purchase whatever kinds of farm products they prefer.
A CSA is a relationship of mutual support and commitment between local farmers and community members who pay in advance for future delivery/pickup of product. By joining the CSA, you become part of the Chengwatana Farm family, enjoying sustainably produced, beyond organic produce, poultry, eggs, lamb, and beef, not to mention supporting diversity, sustainability, and small scale farming innovation. Beyond organic means that we implement measures above and beyond the U.S.D.A. National Organic Protocol, such as fertilizing our pastures with seaweed and compost, raising our livestock on pasture, supplementing their pasture with organic minerals and herbs, and doing intensively managed rotational grazing of livestock for soil improvement.
Your subscription makes a tangible difference – it helps build Chengwatana’s barns, fences, and garden infrastructure; grow the flock, and sustain small, on-farm organic vegetable and fruit production. You also help build a community asset that provides training for young people through our skill-building internship program and entry-level sustainable agriculture jobs. By purchasing in advance you receive a small discount over the retail price, and also insulate yourself from any price increases during the year.
Here are some options to consider:
$720 Whole season (24 week) vegetable CSA subscription; biweekly (half share) is $350
An average CSA delivery is 10-13 pounds of produce.
$110 Whole season egg CSA (1 doz/week) subscription
$1,125 Whole season vegetable, egg, and lamb CSA (whole lamb)
$1,540 Whole season vegetable, egg, pastured broiler chicken (one frozen approximately 4 lb chicken per week), and lamb CSA (whole lamb)
$500+ Whole farm CSA in increments of $500 allows you to purchase any combination of products listed above, plus grassfed beef when available; wool or yarn; jams, pickles, and salsas; gift boxes; vegetable seedlings; and compost.
Whole farm CSAs make great gifts! If you’d like to give a CSA as a gift, just let us know and we will send the recipient a Chengwatana Farm card with your personalized message. Winter CSAs can also be arranged.
And, from time to time, we have a special event our here at the farm just for our CSA members!
